Reading, writing and 'rithmatic
is more than a saying at
St. Lucie West.
January
14, 2002 marked the opening of a 111,000 square-foot, three building
complex located on the adjacent campuses of Indian River Community
College and Florida Atlantic University in St. Lucie West. The
new facility includes classrooms, laboratories, a library, offices
and space for student services. The buildings are constructed
of brick in a traditional style. The joint campus will further
enhance the IRCC/FAU "2+2" programs, which give students
the opportunity to complete their first two years of college
through IRCC and their Junior and Senior years through FAU. Some
of the first programs to be available included business administration,
elementary education, nursing, arts and humanities. Additional
programs added starting the Spring Semester of 2002, included
public administration, social work, social sciences and criminal
justice. IRCC and FAU are grateful to the Treasure Coast Legislative
Delegation for its efforts to secure funding for this complex,
which significantly expanded undergraduate and graduate degree
programs on the Treasure Coast.

New High-Tech Library
High-tech has come to St. Lucie West at the new branch library, located on the Indian River Community College Campus. The library is a cooperative venture between the county, Indian River Community College and Florida Atlantic University.
Residents will enjoy access to a myriad of electronic databases, including encyclopedias, research data and those that Indian River Community College and Florida Atlantic University have developed.
The one-story, 10,000 square foot library opened in the fall of 1995 with 5,000 books, including best sellers, a reading room with national magazines and out-of-town newspapers and numerous volumes of research and academic material. Within five years, the library expects to house 20,000 book titles.
The new library is a perfect complement to the focus St. Lucie West puts on education.
